Since 1973 — when Maynard Jackson was first elected Mayor of Atlanta — the city has elected black mayor at every turn. Next week, all indications suggest that is going to change. Just as Barack Obama was able to get to the White House, Atlanta’s Mary Norwood may surpass three black candidates vying for the mayor’s office.
